M Hermes Bust
Hermes was the son of Zeus and Maia, and he is the god of transitions and boundaries. Fabled to be incredibly quick on his feet, he moved freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine as a messenger of the gods. In the roman adaptation of Hermes, he is identified with Mercury, who was the patron god of financial gain, commerce, and eloquence. Hermes carried the souls of the dead to Hades, the god of the underworld, and he was also the conduit to send through Zeus's dreams to the mortals. One of the oldest and most ancient grounds of worship for Hermes was at Mount Cilene in Arcadia, and it is believed that he was born at that very place.
